Character Sunev

After looking at some of the footage I have taken there have been several instances where the image looks like a painting by Sandro Botticelli the birth of Venus. It depicts the goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving at the sea-shore. the hair movement in the reflection of the water makes me think of the painting as you can see below.

This really inspired me to copy the pose when I was doing the photos for the ancillary products I have to create. Here is the photo I have taken for this.

My character represents the goddess Venus in the way that she is with all of us woman in everything that we do about love and passion, my teaser is about what do you do when this part of your life is gone. The changes in my character represents how things affect the way you live, my character goes one of two ways from the changes that effect her life, either my character changes her appearance to escape reality and herself. Or goes dwells on the past and eventually losses her sanity.

Because of the extent that this painting has inspired me I have decided to Name the film Sunev, which is Venus backward but also this will be my character the surname. This I feel was an important conclusion to reach an has taken me a while to think of but become clear from this inspiration.

Promotional Package

Promotional package is the item that are made to either promote a film or items that’s can be purchased by the consumer. These items must have a genetic trait so that they can be easily recognised and seen by fans. having a promotional campaign is importing in promoting a film it also help sell not just one but all of the films ancillary products such as the magazine covers, the DVD, sound track and other merchandise. I will be concentrating on making these as effective as possible to help make my teaser trailer successful along with the other products i create by making then have a distinct look using certain colour's and fonts to show the are connected.

Plot Ideas Brainstorm

Here are some of the words that come to my mind when thinking about a plot for my film, these are my initial ideas this i feel was a good starting point to look back on if i go off track with the concept im trying to convey to my audience.

The representation of groups in society

My teaser trailer has several groups that are being represented the main group is that of a young white woman. I wanted her to seem older then she looks, in her expressions and voice over voice. This challenges the stereotypically young woman either being naive or brought up very sheltered. There is no indication of this character having these traits in my teaser trailer. My character is seen in several type so locations showing her in different way almost making her appear like several woman, lost or trapped in a world she know she shouldn’t be in. this has a Salome representations, my character givens the representation of any person that has ever lost someone they love, her reliving there time represents most people and their emotions of wanting to be back there with that person. This can be seen in my characters body language and facial expression and even more so because you only ever see her with one man.

Survey Results

Here are two graphs showing the result i got from my surveys, i created two tables to show the same results because sometimes its easier to for others to understand depending on the formats so using two helps prevents any confusing that may occur.

Key Texts Influences and Conventions

 My Key Texts

Sliding doors

This has impacted the way I wanted to create my film, the main idea it gave me was that the events that unfold effect not only other instance but changes my characters appearance also. To make this convention effective the changes have to be dramatic. The same with the film I decided to change my characters hair colour to make it more effective. This text inspired my film to the begging and as I looked at the film trailer in more depth I knew this had to be one of my key texts.

Matrix

This was more about me trying to come up with something original, I love this trilogy and the way it has a real post modern approach. The red pill or the blue… once again we see in a film that one decision changes fate or destiny to the character and this concept of events impacting and changing what the audience thinks will happen, this idea has a real deep hold on my teaser trailer, but also has on several other media product that have been out in the last few years things like dear john, letters to Juliet.

Never let me go

The main concept I got from this is film was in its teaser trailer. The whole piece is really confusing. The shots are quick and frequent there’s only a few things that are spoken and a bit of a voice over other than that there’s nothing that really told you anything about the plot I absolutely loved this, I thought it was so interesting that when I saw the trailer I just had to look up the plot on the internet, and the conclusion I had come to was nothing like what I thought it was about. Because of the reaction I had from it I decided I had to use this idea when creating my own teaser trailer.

Remember me

I really love the voice over and the way the teaser starts off with a quote this I found this a really interesting and memorable way to start a teaser trailer. Also this trailer has a shot that I found very effect and have created for my teaser trailer. This shot was a train speeding past I found this a good representation of travelling.

Marnie

This film is a Alfred hitch cock film so its older then my other key texts, because of the change in hair colour I wanted a moment to show the process because the clips a so fast and I didn’t want to create contingency error so I to prevent this I showed my hair being dyed with the dye going down the sink like the film Marnie

Narrative and Cinematic theory in my Media Product

Todorov's greatest contribution to literary theory was his defining of the Fantastic, the fantastic uncanny, and the fantastic marvellous. Todorov defines the fantastic as being any event that happens in our world that seems to be supernatural. Upon choosing whether the event was real or imaginary, Todorov says that we enter into the genres of uncanny and marvellous. In the fantastic uncanny, the event that occurs is actually an illusion of some sort. The "laws of reality" remain intact and also provide a rational explanation for the fantastic event. In the fantastic marvelous, the supernatural event that occurs has actually taken place and therefore the "laws of reality" have to be changed to explain the event. And if the viewer cannot understand what is going on or an answer then the text is purely fantastic.
Upon the occurrence of the event, we must decide if the event was an illusion or whether it is real and has actually taken place. This theory plays a large part in my teaser trailer the reality of the protagonist is she there, is she crazy, or simply having seen a parallel life to the one she is living. I would say my teaser trailer will fall more into the category of marvellous or purely fantastic rather than uncanny, because canny has a larger sense of realism it uses things like drug or alcohol to explain the supernatural occurrence or strange events people encounter. Todorov’s theory has got me intrigued I wish to understand more about narrative and cinematic theory to further my teaser trailers quality and reality to current media product.

Todorov’s theory in cinematic genre is called Fantastique which is a French term for overlaps with science fiction, horror and fantasy. What is distinctive about the fantastique is the combination of supernatural phenomena into an otherwise realist narrative. This has is certainly shown in my film by the way in which my main focal character is shown to be in normal picture perfect locations with snippets of supernatural events appearing throughout the teaser trailer.

Costume Mood Board

I thought before making my final decisions about the costumes I want my main character to be wearing I thought some research was in order.  I decide the best way to do so was to look though and cut up some magazine to get an idea of the colours and styles I want for my costume.

Pattern Costume Ideas

I thought due to my teaser trailers unique theme I wanted to try experimenting with clothing with vibrant patterns. Although I find these costume ideas appealing I feel that they might over shadow the character and the location which was the main idea I was going for.

Black and Dark Themed Colour Costumes

I thought about trying colours that are a bit darker, colours like dark blue and navy. This was to see if the darker colours would prevent the overshadowing of my character and the rest of the clip the reason this worries me is because my shots I have planned are to be rather fast and if the costumes were to bright this would distract from what’s happening, so darker and planer colours are a must

Feminine Costume Ideas

I wanted to show my characters personality though a very soft feminine costume but I have reached the same problem as before, the colour and pattern are overbearing with the other colours in the locations.

Dark yet Feminine Costumes

This is my favourite set because it incorporates all of the ideas I gained from the previous ideas, the darker colours make it less distracting but it all has the pattern’s and the feminine flow to the costumes that I was after. This has made me come to the conclusion I will be looking for a floral blouse for a part of my costume with perhaps dark bottoms and dark vest underneath to tone down the costume if the shirt is to light or patterned.

Location

Below is some of my best footage from the locations i decided shoot, I wanted to use some interesting location this is why i had three to create a variety of shots.

Viral Marketing Research

Definition

Viral marketing is a marketing strategy that relies on individuals rather than traditional campaigns to pass along a message to others. It usually refers to marketing on the Internet. Viral marketing is so named because of the tendency for messages to use "hosts" to spread themselves rapidly, like a biological virus.

It can be delivered by word of mouth or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet. Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or text messages. Off the Internet, viral marketing has been referred to as word-of-mouth, creating a buzz, leveraging the media, network marketing.

My Viral Marketing campaign Ideas

·         From my research the most influential word in viral marketing is free. People are always willing to take something for nothing.  So if the consumer say has to sign up to my website to get I free poster download or see a longer directors cut of the trailer, I would then have their email address that I can send email to then about more upcoming film websites to by merchandise etc. once the wheel is in motion the process becomes even easier, the more emails you have the quicker your advertisement gets round.

My advertisement must be easier to remember and relay e-mail, website, graphic, software download. Viral marketing works famously on the Internet because instant communication has become so easy and inexpensive. Digital format make copying simple. Eye-catching titles images also make the information attractive and memorable and make it into an interesting topic for talk.

People want to feel a part of something, to have their say and be popular and understood be others. That’s why things like forums are popular so a film forum is a good way to promote a up and coming film. people can then discuss what they expect to see, what they want and their opinions this makes good viral marketing but not only that, I would then be able to see what the consumer wants from my production. This information help to build its popularity and help it progress.

By using existing communication networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, My space we then can create a chain so no matter what people network is being used everyone is getting reached. I want to concentrate on setting up a face book page for my production company so I can get feedback.
