Working alone

This project has been a good learning expectations, working alone has had difficult moments mainly having someone else to help do filming and when you need to brainstorm ideas but other than that the experience has helped me progress and develop my knowledge of the media industry and how it works.

It was a strange sensation being the actor, the writer, director, and everything else you can think of. Working on footage with me in it and editing images with me on them. But this is not an uncommon thing. Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed, and stared in the rocky films. So although its feels a bit strangers it’s been done before.

Editing - Software

IMovie Software

to edit my teaser trailer I used IMovie this was a very simple easy to use software that despite others qualms I feel was effective and has done the same if not a better job than other over complex editing software because of its simplicity nothing went wrong I lost no data, the quality was not compromised what so ever. But also because I had more time I had more opportunity to create titles and play with the adobe after effects which yes is more complex because its fro creating titles and effects which would not  have been adequate on IMovie. Although it has a nice basic collaboration of transitions and titles it is better on after effects. But I stick by IMovie when it comes to cropping and adjusting the filming into a project its simplicity and effectiveness to get the job done has no bounds.

After effects

This is an amazing piece of editing technology, the titles I created for my teaser trailers looked semi professional, the quality was brilliant and gave me the options to edit templates, or to use effects that were ready to use. This was helpful to look at, good to get inspiration. This part of my editing process to longer the previous like I expected due to the fact that I wanted it to be just right. I also used this software to create special effect, a ghost effect for my teaser trailer I did this using the Luma key in the effects section this worked surprisingly well and made me really pleased that I had made it work like I had planned.

Editing

I have had much fun doing the editing and what a task I have been. Having to take over 6 hours of filming and turn that into a 1.30 minute trailer. Was a hard task but it would have been worse if I had of had less filming because a perfect shot is sometimes hard to come by. It may take hours to get a shot you really like and want to use. The 3 locations were a big reason why there was so much to play with and the amount of time spent perfecting each and every shot. This continued with my editing. It was the process of elimination for most of the picking of the shots. I started by adding in all of the shots  that I thought were the best then slowly but surely removed thoughts that had no importance, or were not quite as good as others. Most of the shots I picked because I wanted to create an image, a photograph the shots are almost like a photograph with the light and action in a particular way rather than the audience be looking at the events I wanted then to be looking at the beauty in the image in front of them. My reasoning for this was because images are more memorable then events, a teaser trailer is so short you want the audience to see the wonderful aspect they will see upon watching the film. Rather than trying to tell a short story or event that just doesn’t work.

Making the Music

To make the music i used Garage band on a mac, this was a helpful resouse in the construction of my main task. This is a unique programe that really help make my music to fit with the filming i had allready done. I am pleased with my music, from garage band but this was also aided by some uncopy righted music i imported to grage band and rearange and changed to work and inprove on the music i had all ready made.

Promotional Package Outcome

I am really please with the way my promotion package come out I am happy with every aspect from my DVD covers to my website I have spent a lot of time perfecting them so they not only look good individually but also as a whole.

Answered good: I Really love the layout and design but I would have like to have seen more pictures from the film on the website I do rather like how the theme looks good because it matches the plot of my teaser trailer.

Answered adequate: In my opinion I wasn’t sure if the buttons and pages were too simple. On the other side the all work I guess and they look good, and as you said most film websites only have a few pages. Maybe by adding a few more pages the site would look more professional.

Website planning

This is the layout for my website, i don't want the usual image of film as the background like most film websites i want to challenge this convention to attempt to create a website that has a much more unique and memorable appearance. I have also decided to create my website on adobe flash program this gives me a lot more of a free rain and not be stopped my pesky templates that can not be your own, this limits you creativeness and and means every thing you do is one of many option not a choice to develop and create your idea. I looked in to using I web but templates was all it really offered. So even if my website isn't as smooth, at least Ill know it it was all of my ideas.

Sound track Cover

Sound track Research

After looking at several soundtrack covers it was clear that, they are mainly just the image of the film with just a simple line of text saying that this is the sound track from the motion picture. many big production have a sound track so i felt it appropriate to make one for mine.

Age Ratings

After looking at the Possible age rating i could categorize my trailer as it was between 12A and 15 and after careful consideration i decided  to place my film as a 15. I come to this conclusion for several reason firstly this gives me more room to explore with adult themes. Also despite the initial thought that this will make  my audience smaller, this will increase the right type of audience, being older this means my audience will spend more while there. Also they will be able to get to the cinema unlike young teens they will need transport which may be unavailable. Unlike 15s and over who will be able to get a bus or drive. This is why i thought it would be more appropriate for 15 to be my trailers rating.

Clips from film

I found this interesting site where anyone can create movies using pre-made cartoon animation. Despite this not giving you a lot of creative freedom, it helps explore camera angles and concepts you would like to try when making the film clip yours self. it reminds me of a quick and simple way in which film maker could story board  there ideas and see them moving immediately.

i thought i would create a short moment from the film if i continued in its development. to see how the result would come out below is the result.

Although this is not the most effective, as the words slur and have no emotion and everything apart from my words are a set template. It is still a useful experiment that could be handy in the future.

Day of filming

Here is me on one of my several filming days, i loved filming and making the most out of every location i used. all though i was the main actor i would still be the cameraman in a sense because i would set the camera up and tripod and then line up the shot i wanted then get in to position to act. Or i would push the record then run onto shot but mostly i had all my crew as they had to follow me around and push the button.

Changes that need to be made

After getting my feedback there are several thing I need to change. These are times like adding graphic titles to give the audience a bit of the plot and the production company and film title screen to make the teaser trailer look more professional.

Create some special effects to make the trailer more interesting and keep the audience interested and make them really want to see the film its self. Also make the shots quicker and sharper to follow the conventions of a teaser trailer.

The overall comments were that they could not yet define a plot, which made it rather confusing. The shots were stunning creative and imaginative. There was also alot of contrast in the shot that they saw. There were also some loverly bright colour scheme, and all of the camera shots were varied and stedilly taken.

Some really effective footage here Gemma, enigmatic and intriguing with a soundtrack that complements the theme perfectly. You also need the institutional context graphics.

Ancillary Task - Empire Magazine Updated

Plot

No one has a set path; our lives can change at the turn of a coin. Nothing can ever be certain. Sunev is a young woman with nothing but her name. She knows not who she is. Or her life before her awakening, the start of her life was that moment she woke up and saw herself lying in front of her. Her death or life evokes her destiny. And the events that unfold after this moment are like extract of a book not yet written, ever changing. Sunev goes on a journey to find a purpose from her existence only knowing that this is her only option. She remembers only one thing from her previous life the face of a man, whom she knows not. The people she meets become a part of her as she moves along. The two paths take her in different directions. The first is her becoming Sunev the other is of Ruth a woman who after the death of her partner moves to London to start a new life. These to destinies unfold as we see the path become clear. There’s a reason for the birth of Sunev, her creation becomes a part of the infrastructure of this world. There for the misguided spirit that also wander this earth with no meaning.

Conclusion


Overall im pleased with the response i got for my first two ancillary products, there may be a few changes to be made to my empire magazine if the time is with me but other then that, i am satisfied with my products out come and am not needing any drastic changes.

Ancillary Task - French Poster

Lighting and colour

The lighting though extremely important like in an production, has less relevance in my teaser trailer. My lighting success is going to to be left up to luck an careful planing. Even then the lighting can still go all wrong. This i due to the fact that most of my teaser trailer will be filmed outside. Due to this fact lighting is less in my control it just means im going to have to drop everything and just film when the moment arises and the sun decides to come out.


If this plan doesn't work then the footage i take will just have t go trough a very comprehensive editing process were i will need to spend time tinkering with the brightness, contrast and exposure in the hope of improving the lighting to the clips. Below is an image i have taken through this process.

All of the Norfolk location filming i do i want the colour to appear bright, saturated and with i  slight over exposed feel. The London filming will have bright aspect but some bits will definitely be considerately darker, this is very important to me so i can create a contrast in the sections of the trailer.

Facebook Results Part 1

Here shows how my Facebook page is progressing there are now several images on there from the film there is also now my ancillary products on there for others to comment on.

I have gained crucial feedback from my fans about, films they like and what the there exceptions are. also there comments on my products have been a vital part of there progression and development.

Acting

I enjoyed doing the acting I found it an exhausting sometimes doing some of the filming on my own. But other than that a great experience, I had to try and convey meaning using my body language and facial expression rather than with words or actions. Because of the amount of time you have to play with for a teaser trailer there can’t be long detailed conversations or clips of events that occur during the film, it’s more about conveying an emotion an idea something that grabs the audience’s attention. I feel I have perfected this from last year’s opening sequence that I was also done the acting in.

I decided to take the role again this year because I feel it more adequate and efficient for me to be the main role because I know what I want, and how I want it to be done and although I could have gotten a better performer then myself it was I smother process for me to do the honour then someone that wouldn’t understand the role. To progress my acting capability I also helped out another group in my class to do some of their acting I shared the same role with another member in there group to play the main role. This was fun and I felt less under pressure then I was to get my own teaser trailer right. This also helped my learn how to best use my body actions and expression most effectively to look most appealing

After reading about Normans life and some of the things he said in his life, made this his stand words stand out to me over some of the other quotes I have read from other authors and scholars and anything I could come up with. Also this idea says everything I wanted my trailer to stand for. Also it’s shorter then what I originally was thinking of for my main voice over as you can see from my shot list. But I think this idea some up the idea I was looking to create with my teaser trailer.



Setting up face book Page

The first step was simply setting up the Facebook page, i used my logo a the picture in the top left hand corner. I also decided to make this a resourcefully mean of feedback to add post asking my audience about the films they  like. I also added picture from my teaser trailer to make the page look more appealing.

I then added the like to my profile so all of my friends could view it.

I also thought it would be appropriate for my blog to have a link to my Bleak Productions Facebook page, this can also be used  by anyone on my blog to see any current updates that have been posted to the Facebook page.
